Crazy Year… Wonderful Honey

Despite the hardships and tragic circumstances that 2020 has presented to us all, honey bees in Northern Illinois have had an incredible year.  Truly – the local fauna was blessed with plenty of sunshine, well timed rain, and pretty mild temperatures.  Send in the 🐝 s.  Oh yeah, the delightful honey bees.  What a productive season they had.

Our average production per colony was up 20% over last year and the overall health of our hives was equally impressive.  2019 presented some challenges with unexpected colony losses during the peak production period.  Queen failures were down, mites were very manageable, and the nectar flow was exceptional – all resulting in a great honey crop.
